Overview

1. Stay true to yourself

Meeting someone for the first time can cause anxiety. Nevertheless, you have to be calm and be yourself all through the conversation. Mistakes most people make on their first date is that they want to sound and look perfect not knowing there is no one way or standard when meeting someone; it literally depends on the individuals involved.

2. Don’t assume you’re already friends

Don’t pressure yourself in trying to be your ‘date girlfriend or boyfriend’. You’re just meeting each other for the first time so don’t assume you’re already friends. Get to know each other; it will take some time before you can call each other friends. The truth is, you might not even end up as friends at all.

3. Don’t overshare

He or she doesn’t have to know your family history. Try to keep the conversation simple and classy. Don’t overshare because you want to be real. Things you know are quite private to you should be known to your dates if you eventually become partners.

4. Don’t derail from the conversation

Another mistake you must avoid on your first date is derailing from the main conversation. You shouldn’t be overbearing like being particular about a topic your partner is not willing to share or go deeper on. The goal is to have a meaningful conversation that includes your aspirations.

5. Don’t be impolite

The way you converse with your companion actually says a lot about you. You don’t have to be rude, even if he or she is not enlightened about what you’re saying. You have to choose your words wisely.
