Overview

Audi once planned to introduce only electric new models from 2026, but things are unlikely to go that fast.

Earlier this year, a rumour surfaced that Audi wanted to revise its electric plans somewhat. Now it appears that is indeed happening. It seems that Audi’s fuel cars will remain relevant for longer than initially expected. Audi previously stated that no new fuel models would be introduced after 2026, but CEO Gernot Döllner states that the ‘deadlines need to be revised’.

That still sounds a bit vague, but Döllner emphasizes the importance of fuel models. “We are not only launching new electric models but also a new generation of fuel cars and plug-in hybrids. We are adapting the production of our fuel cars to the various developments in the world markets.” In that last part of Döllner’s statement, there is an important condition: why a hard deadline for models with a combustion engine is suddenly no longer so obvious.
