Nigeria partners Swiss firm to unveil drug manufacturing academy
The Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Empower School of Health, based in Geneva, to create a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Training Academy in Nigeria.
This collaboration is designed to fill talent gaps in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry and support the country’s ambitious goals: producing 70% of its medicines by 2030 and 60% of its vaccines by 2040, aligning with the Africa CDC’s vision.
During the signing event, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, emphasized the importance of skilled talent in driving pharmaceutical manufacturing, noting that while Nigeria produces many graduates, most lack hands-on industry experience due to limited local manufacturing.
Empower, known globally for its pharmaceutical training across 40+ countries, will help design and implement a sustainable, industry-driven training program aimed at equipping Nigerian youth, boosting local drug production, and strengthening the economy.
