FG to recruit more agro rangers for farmers’ protection
The Federal Government has announced plans to recruit additional agro rangers to enhance security for farmers across the country.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement during the 5th edition of the Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
The move followed a series of violent attacks on farmers in various regions.
In January, government officials reported the deaths of at least 40 farmers in an attack by armed groups in Borno State.
Additionally, in Ondo State, five farmers were killed by suspected herdsmen in the Aba Oyinbo community in the Akure North Local Government Area, an incident that occurred early on Wednesday morning, sparking a protest.
In response to the growing threats, Tunji-Ojo highlighted ongoing efforts to improve internal security in the country.
He pointed out that in the past year, 10,000 officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were trained as agro rangers to protect farmlands.
